The finest clothing made is a person's skin, but, of course, society demands something more than this. ~Mark Twain
As Laura Mease walked into the law office wearing a pink Chanel suit and blue Manolo Blahnik heels, she quickly realized that her love for style and her career in law were not going to mix…
Laura hails from the Rose City of Jackson, Michigan, which has produced such notable names as James Earl Jones, Potter Stewart and W.A. Foote. Her appreciation for the finer things came at the age of sixteen when she worked at Jacobson’s, a specialty department store founded in Jackson. Laura has always known how to balance her interests, such as fashion, with her dedication to hard work and higher education. While her mind remained focused on her classroom studies at Michigan State University in East Lansing and Drake University Law School in Iowa, she never lost her eye for style. Her time in Des Moines not only led her to a career as a CPA and lawyer, but was also where she met her future husband, Marty Mease.
While Marty and Laura’s love came easily, the wedding gown did not. Laura recalls, “As a lawyer searching for a wedding dress, there weren’t any shops catering to a professional woman. The Cinderella look was everywhere but I was looking for cutting-edge fashion that just wasn’t offered in the Midwest at that time.”
After Laura and Marty moved to Kansas City, she set about to bring high-fashion to the area, and in 1993, opened Laura’s Couture Collection. “I had faith in the Midwestern brides,” claims Laura, “and the wonderful ladies that I have worked with have never let me down with their fashion sense.”
From the elegant, hand-chosen gowns to the individual attention you’ll find at Laura’s Couture Collection, Laura prides herself on the unique experience customers receive when purchasing gowns from her boutique. Brides come for the elegance, the unique bridal gown selection process and Laura’s unwavering talent for understanding a bride’s vision and delivering the perfect gown for each occasion.
These days, Laura and Marty consider their companies to be the children they never had. His store, Measetique Jewels, is the perfect complement to Laura’s boutique and every bride or couple they work with become part of their extended family.
Life is her party—When Laura isn’t making the rounds at New York fashion shows or dining with designers, you can find her enjoying the music at Renee Kelly’s Caenan Castle sipping a Couture-tini, the house signature pink sugar-rimmed drink named for Laura and her gowns. To keep the newlywed romance alive, she and Marty will sneak away to their favorite location in the Bahamas to relive their honeymoon.
When she isn’t sipping Couture-tinis and romancing in the Bahamas, she’s dedicating herself to spreading joy through an organization for abused women that she created, Laura’s Brides for a Cause™. This charity brings together past, current and future brides who serve the community by supporting a local charity each year through activities like the LUXE Awards. Laura founded the annual LUXE Kansas City’s Wedding Showcase to bring together brides and vendors for a fashion show and tea to support the fundraising of Laura’s Brides for a Cause.
For this high-fashion diva, living life is more than just designer wedding gowns; it’s about having fun and sharing love. From stilettos to socials to couture to charities, Laura doesn’t just offer fashion, she lives fashion. She knows that each bride is unique and special, and they can expect the very best service such as private fittings, bridal consulting, and custom alterations. Laura wants each bride’s experience to be stress-free and the once-in-a-life memory girls dream about. Come visit Laura at her shop or stop by Caenan Castle on Thursday nights; you’re guaranteed to become an old friend in minutes!
